We are tired of boring job ads. Are you?
Let’s do this differently! How about we do a question and answer for the job ad?
Important first question: Why should you want to work here?
1) We want to give you opportunities to learn and become a rockstar at what we do.
2) We care more about your potential than about your prior work experience.
3) We have a great team of people who are fun to work with.
4) We are a smaller company where every person’s work is respected and appreciated.
Wait a sec, what about the business? Shouldn’t we talk about what the business “mission” is first? Where is the long bulleted list of job responsibilities?
We think it’s important for you to enjoy where you work, and what you do. If you are happy and feel like you are learning and growing in your job, then you are likely to be more successful in the position.
The biggest impact on your happiness in the job will be the culture of the company. If your manager or coworkers are “difficult,” then it is a lot harder for you to be happy and enjoy coming to work. For most jobs, company culture is way more important to your day-to-day happiness than the focus of the business. You can have an awesome job in a sanitation company, but a terrible job in a puppy petting center if your manager is a jerk.
This is why we would prefer to start the job ad with what qualities would make *you* enjoy working here. Because if you are awesome, then you will have many places to choose to work. But we would be thrilled if you chose to work with us 🙂
So there isn’t a bulleted list in this ad?
Sorry, no. 🙁
How do we keep such a positive culture at the company?
We spend a lot of time when hiring to make sure we find awesome people who care about doing a great job. This is important because we not only want you to be great, but we want to make sure everyone you work with is great too. At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter how smart a person is. If they can’t get along with other people and work as part of an awesome team, it is going to be a drag on everyone.
We also don’t like micromanaging, and are always open to hearing ideas on how to improve things. We don’t have much of a bureaucracy that you will have to fight against. The bureaucracy is just me (hi!).
Many people have told us that this is the only job they’ve ever worked where they actually look forward to coming to work. We are so happy when we hear things like that!
What kind of pharmacy are you?
We specialize in compounding! Our facility was fully renovated recently, and we have state-of-the-art labs.
Do you need to have any compounding experience?
Nope! We know that compounding experience is rare. What we are looking for is someone who knows how to have positive interactions with customers and co-workers, and is super smart. We can teach you all you need to know about compounding if you are willing to learn.
How much of the job relates to compounding?
Most of the job. You will be verifying traditional and compounded prescriptions, talking with doctors on the phone, counseling and answering patient questions.
Is this a part-time job?
Yes!
What if you want a full-time time?
We unfortunately don’t have a full-time job opening right now. Sorry! However, if you are interested in working at our store full time I highly, highly recommend that you join our job newsletter at the bottom of this page. When we have pharmacist job openings we send an email out to people on that list. We don’t have many pharmacist job openings, so this is a great way to learn about our openings right when they occur.
If you do want a full-time job, this part-time job could be a good way for you to get your foot in the door.
What kind of hours would you work?
As a part-time pharmacist, you would be covering for vacations and illnesses. You would work on average of one to two days per week, but in practice there may be some weeks where you work 5 days, and others you work none depending on the current vacation schedule. The great news is that we generally have our vacation schedule planned out many weeks and months in advance, so we should be able to give you lots of notice regarding the days you will be working.
We used to be open Saturdays, but with covid are currently not open Saturdays. In the future, if we were to re-open on Saturdays your schedule would also likely include working every Monday, as well as covering for vacations and illness.
This is a great opportunity if you are currently a relief or pharmacist looking to work more hours or are looking for a relief or opportunity.
What can you tell me about the company?
We are family owned, and take immense pride in helping our patients. Our pharmacy is not like any other pharmacy you’ve ever worked at. We do all sorts of things differently from a traditional pharmacy, from how we make our drugs to how we interact with our patients and doctors, to how we treat our employees. We’ve been told it is a unique and satisfying working environment.
How often do you have job openings?
We rarely have new job openings for pharmacists, so this is your chance to join a great team!
What are some unique aspects to this job?
You will be expected to use your clinical knowledge to help solve tough patient cases. This job is nothing like a traditional retail pharmacy job, where your primary concern is verifying as many prescriptions as necessary. You will of course be involved in verification, but we regularly spend lots of time counseling and interacting with patients. Practitioners also recognize us as the experts in the community, and we help collaborate on finding innovative solutions to help their patients.
tldr; You’ll use your education, and get to interact with patients and practitioners in a meaningful way.
Do you have benefits?
Yes! Full-time employees (>32 hours per week) have access to Health and dental insurance. All employees get access to 401(k) accounts, sick/flex time, employee discounts and snacks in the breakroom.
How old is your pharmacy?
We’ve have been around since 1983, and have worked hard to become respected and trusted members of the community.
Should I send a cover letter when I apply?
Yes, please do! We love cover letters.
Are there any details your lawyer is making you include that don’t really fit the format of a question and answer job ad?
I’m glad you asked! Yes there are!
