Tired of boring job ads? So are we!

You’ve come to the right place! Let’s do this differently, because just like you are tired of reading boring job ads, we are tired of *writing* boring ads. How about a question and answer?

Important first question: Why should you want to work here?

1) We want to help you to learn and become a rockstar at what you do.
2) We care more about your potential than about your prior work experience.
3) We have a great team of people who are fun to work with.
4) We are a smaller company where every person’s work is respected and appreciated.

Wait a sec, what about the business? Shouldn’t we talk about what the business “mission” is first? Where is the long bulleted list of job responsibilities?

We think it’s important for you to enjoy where you work, and what you do. If you are happy and feel like you are learning and growing in your job, then you are likely to be more successful in the position.

The biggest impact on your happiness in the job will be the culture of the company. If your manager or coworkers are “difficult,” then it is a lot harder for you to be happy and enjoy coming to work. For most jobs, company culture is way more important to your day-to-day happiness than the focus of the business. You can have an awesome job in a sanitation company, but a terrible job in a puppy petting center if your manager is a jerk.

This is why we would prefer to start the job ad with what qualities would make *you* enjoy working here. Because if you are awesome, then you will have many places to choose to work. But we would be thrilled if you chose to work with us 🙂

So there isn’t a bulleted list in this ad?

Sorry, no. 🙁

How do we keep such a positive culture at the company?

We spend a lot of time when hiring to make sure we find awesome people who care about doing a great job. This is important because we not only want you to be great, but we want to make sure everyone you work with is great too. At the end of the day, it doesn’t matter how smart a person is, if they can’t get along with other people and work as part of an awesome team, it is going to be a drag on everyone.

We also don’t like micromanaging, and are always open to hearing ideas on how to improve things. We don’t have much of a bureaucracy that you will have to fight against. The bureaucracy is just me (hi!).

Many people have told us that this is the only job they’ve ever worked where they actually look forward to coming to work. We are so happy when we hear that!

Do you need to have any compounding experience?

Nope! We know that compounding experience is rare. What we are looking for is someone who knows how to have positive interactions with customers and co-workers, and is super smart. We can teach you all you need to know about compounding if you are willing to learn.

How much of the job is compounding?

Most of the job. You will be verifying traditional and compounded prescriptions, talking with doctors on the phone, and answering patient questions.

Is this a part-time job? How many hours?

Yes, this is a part-time job opening. You will be staffing one to two days every week (Monday and a second day), and then you will also be staffing to cover vacations for pharmacists. This normally works out to be between 12-18 weeks per year between all the pharmacists. We will do our best to keep your schedule as regular and consistent as possible, and with as much warning for the vacation coverage as we can.

What if you are interested in full-time work?

I would recommend signing up for our job announcement email list at the bottom of this page, and you will be alerted when a full-time job opens up. This way, you will be among the first to know about the job opening, and you won’t have to hit refresh on the site every day “just in case.” Though, you are of course welcome to hang out on our website as long as you like.

What kind of hours would you work?

The store is open weekdays from 9-7, and Saturdays from 10-4. Pharmacists generally work an 8 hour shift on weekdays, starting sometime between 8am and 10:30am, depending on the shift. As a part-time pharmacist, you would be unlikely to work Saturdays until you are fully trained.

We try really hard to keep schedules consistent and easy to remember, so that you can plan your life outside of work. Besides working every Monday, you would also be working to cover vacations. This could be an 8 hour shift for a couple days, or full time for a couple weeks. But we try to give you as much advance notice as possible for vacation coverage, to make sure you have time to relax and chill with your family as much as possible. I mean, as much as hanging out with your family can be relaxing, haha.

What can you tell me about the company?

We are family owned, and take immense pride in helping our patients. Our pharmacy is not like any other pharmacy you’ve ever worked at. We do all sorts of things differently from a traditional pharmacy, from how we make our drugs to how we interact with our patients and doctors, to how we treat our employees. We’ve been told it is a unique and satisfying working environment.

How often do you have job openings?

We rarely have new job openings (especially for pharmacists!), so this is your chance to join a great team!

What are some unique aspects to this job?

You will be expected to use your clinical knowledge to help solve tough patient cases. This job is nothing like a traditional retail pharmacy job, where your primary concern is verifying as many prescriptions as necessary. You will of course be involved in verification, but we regularly spend lots of time counseling and interacting with patients. Practitioners also recognize us as the experts in the community, and we help collaborate on finding innovative solutions to help their patients.

tldr; You’ll use your education, and get to interact with patients in a meaningful way.

Do you have benefits?

Yes! Health, dental, flex time and 401(k)!

How old is your pharmacy?

We’ve have been around since 1983, and have worked hard to become respected and trusted members of the community.

Are there any details your lawyer is making you include that don’t really fit the format of a question and answer job ad?

I’m glad you asked! Yes there are!
